I have been pole dancing for nearly 6 years and teaching almost 2 🥰 ps when you learn what pole dancing really means you will understand these numbers more and why we have poleversaries 💜
But did you know I have disabilities & chronic illnesses, Did you know, I am also known for taking my time & patience, for being a warrior, a dancer & instructor 🤗
Well you do now and today I am sharing with you the why/how...It's quite simple really 😉 I had and continue to have no choice and it's fucking great!!!😍
I require time, I can't be how societal conditioning wants me and that means I have to be patient/myself, just like authentic pole dancing, it's why we get on so well and you could too! 💜
This also means I am able to create a space free from societal conditioning, a space to learn, to be safe, have fun and feel so god damn empowered you will never get up or down the expected way again 😂🔥🔥🔥 (shout out to those who have been doing this even before they became a dancer...ah butt shuffle, your creativity is always welcomed especially in class 🤪)
I am also a sugar coat free zone and if you are in class with me, I will keep us grounded, pole dancing is hard but not impossible! Hell I can't open bottles by myself, I don't have full use of my hands & more but I can pole dance! It just requires you as you are and an environment that supports the challenges....on that note....

✨ A longer warm up & cool down - this means cross training and recovery time for pole and everyday living.
✨ Less moves verses a regular pole session, giving us more time to play and find your way 🩵
✨ Time to focus on our mindset, so we can empower ourselves through challenging moments 🤗
Last but not least you can stay in Poleplay for as long as you want, it doesn't end at 5 weeks, this was a massive factor in my journey, dancing isn't meant to be accomplished in weeks or months, it is passion & expression, it is timeless and for you if you want it 💜

One of the best questions I get asked is how do I get stronger or better at what I am currently learning?
My answer is....
Play 🩷💜🩵💛
You may feel that's too simple, it's got to be more complex we need to do more but it's not and we don't 🤪
We have just completed, week 3 of our FloorPlay journeys 🔥 The class includes existing and newbie students and we have all gone from the unknown to becoming more ourselves and confident through the power of play! Want to know how? Then read on 😉
In Katalyst classes we play
.. in the warm up, I will tell you a little secret! 🤫 All my warm ups include functional and conditioning moves that help us with what we are currently learning and every day living! For this block it is about trucker and getting up 🔥 so every warm up has set us up ready for the movement to come helping us feel stronger and capable without even really thinking about it ❤️
.. in practice with a little bit of technique and a lot of personality because it must work for the wonderful unique humans we are and help us feel like we can continue! I love this part 😻 it is where we are always on a high with the laughter/feels and all though you may not think we look all that different each of our journeys there was and is inside & out, it's just not that easy to see or be aware of ❤️
.. together, like this week I asked the Katalyst Club to meet me at our core moves when called, no rushing or trying to get a move on a beat just simply meeting on the dancefloor one by one enjoying what we have learnt so far, all whilst building our endurance and feeling part of the movement, because we are in it together ❤️
..last but not least for ourselves in freestyle 🤗 this comes up just enough because it is a really good time to focus on what you want and venture into the unknown by accidentally creating your own move further empowering you as you are ❤️

How does it feel to move and learn new skills with

How does it feel to move and learn new skills with a chronic illness or disablity?
Scary 😰
Why because myself and others spend a lot of time learning how we are at higher risk, for example, I have a body which is physically damaged so I fear I will cause unrepairable injury if I go too fast and there is an unknown to what will happen after the move 🙈
So with that in mind, what helps us continue?
🩷 A space where safety is paramount
🩷 Being heard
🩷 Having someone who is willing to work with us and find alternative movement that supports what we want to work towards, until we are ready
🩷 Time (including extra extra 🤪 breakdown of the moves in your current teaching plan and the option to repeat levels, it's ok to go off plan)
🩷 Breaks (plus knowing ahead of class what to do or how to reach out for help when our condition takes a turn)
🩷 Accepting when we feel a move is not an option and helping us find something else to participate in vs nothing
🩷 Emphasis on fun and feeling Vs success
🩷 Celebrating difference in everyone
🩷 Having awareness that invisible illness is real, you can't see what is going on inside, so always communicate and never assume, many people learn how to mask
🩷 Recommending another area/teacher when you are out of scope to support us

It's been a busy week but admin isn't so bad when working for yourself and I really enjoy writing class plans they always inspire me with so much more content it's never ending and I love that, roll on FloorPlay next week 🥰 ps there is still a little time to grab the few spaces left 🔥
I have also been busy with my studies, I am now 83% through 2 of my additional learning courses and about to start the other two so I can specialise in working with the disabled 🤗 The providers I am working with are great but I do have a giggle every time I pick up my manual for exercise referrals it just reminds me of my why because it's still super common for marketing to only represent the older population even though the schemes are typically for 16 years and above and in general we are still unaware that conditions like arthritis start even younger like myself who was born disabled 🙈
Last night the new explorers started at Purity 💜 another fabulously unique group who absolutely smashed it and gave it their all ✨ so excited to see how their journeys unfold and I am blessed to be able to teach them so thank you for starting and @jolenesensualbeing as always as it couldn't happen without you 💜

I still remember when I first trained on this move, love at first sight 😍 It was super empowering, I mean you literally lift yourself up out of the floor 🤪 It's so gooey and there are lots of options so you are bound to find something that enhances the uniqueness in you!
Plus it's a great way to build endurance, strength and work on our lines 💪
